Definitely worth reading. Found this through WordPress from Aaron Gilbreath. I would also encourage you to check out the full piece in the Paris Review. It is well-worth the read and, truth be told, David Sedaris is a much better writer than myself.
David Sedaris tallies a few of the many reasons he feels shame and sadness being an American in the time of Trump.

I’m became severely depressed a week or two before the election. It hasn’t gotten any better. Periodically, I escape into fantasy. There was a delightful fantasy where Barrack donned his college days Fedora and meets WaPo in a dark parking garage, but it’s crowded there–lots of deep throats. At this moment, the House is meeting to vote on a Health Care bill and I’m fantasizing that they come out of sessions with a vote to impeach, whereupon the Donald retaliates by declaring Medicaid for all. This could happen and the problem remains–those who voted for him and who believe in him. They are our cousins, our neighbors, our in-laws. They have been bred and educated by a sick society, and for several years have been fed misinformation by Russian bots, who are still very active in the social network system. When the vile and disgusting idiot came down the escalator, I said “This is the President that America deserves.” That is the part about this whole thing that depresses me the most.

Kathy, I know these can be trying times. As someone who suffers from depression, recent events have only served to exacerbate matters further. It’s truly a scary time and what disturbs me most is the outpouring of rage I feel in keeping myself duly informed of events.
While one can readily say, you can always Hope and Take Action, in the face of such bigotry, hatred, corruption, and outright incompetence such sentiments can have the appearance of platitudes. Regardless, the most I can do at this exact moment is to hope that:
1) The GOP Healthcare Bill is struck down yet again…a big win and a statement to the American people and Trump IF it fails
2) Trump Fires the wretched segregationist/racist that is Jeff Sessions…further adding another nail to the coffin of Trump’s political career as evidence supporting an obstruction of justice charge.
3) Further discussion on impeachable offenses
Finally (sorry for the lengthy and long-winded reply) remember you are not alone and that there are legions of concerned citizens of this country that are desperately fighting against the Tyranny of Trump and his cronies. Given the enormity of the disaster we collectively face, retreating into fantasy on occasion is a perfectly reasonable activity to avoid going out of your mind…just so long as you remember to emerge from the fantasy.
Best of luck and Best wishes.
–Cheers!
